Swirl in the granola and eat it with a spoon or drink it with a straw and save the crunch for the end! Thanks to American Dairy Association Mideast for sponsoring this post. As always all opinions are my own. The weather has been so pleasant in Denver lately. The non-frigid temperatures have also brought back my craving for smoothies after a run or hike and lately this Chocolate Peanut Butter Espresso Smoothie Parfait has really been hitting the spot! Drink it with a straw until you hit the granola layer then break out the spoon and finish it off, or swirl the granola into the smoothie and eat the entire thing with a spoon. I went with the latter. To make this smoothie I used lowfat chocolate milk.

According to the National Peanut Board, Americans spend almost $ million a year on peanut butter; the average American consumes more than six pounds of peanuts and peanut products per year.
Today we are going to find out how to do it right. A few months ago I brought home a two-pound bag of raw, locally grown peanuts. When my peanut butter was done, it turned out absolutely delicious! First, you need to roast your raw peanuts. All peanuts need to be spread in one layer. This is what my usual setup looks like pardon the beat-up pizza pan! Based on your oven, the peanuts need to be roasted for 14 min with a good shaking of the pan midway through the roasting.
My oven is on the weaker side, so I usually roast them for Once the peanuts are done, let them cool for at least an hour. I find the sound very cute: When the peanuts are cool enough to handle, the most tedious part of the process starts: Take a handful, and rub vigorously between both hands to get most of the skins off. Put the peeled peanuts into a bowl. Repeat until all of the peanuts are peeled this might take some time….

When cooked the interior flesh is golden orange, starchy and moister than other yam varieties. Its flavor sweet with a savory earthiness will be at its sweetest when roasted, which allows the sugars of the yam to caramelize slowly. In addition to the tubers, the leaves of the Garnet yam plant are edible as well, offering both nutrients and a flavor similar to that of spinach. Current Facts The Garnet yam is, in fact, not a true yam.
It is a sweet potato that lost its identity to an American labeling system that forced the naming of yellow-orange fleshed sweet potatoes to include yam in their identification. Today the USDA requires that all yams also be labeled as sweet potatoes when sold. To further add to the naming complications neither true yams or sweet potatoes are botanically potatoes at all.
The Garnet yam “sweet potato” is a root vegetable of the Convolvulaceae family and botanically known as a part of Ipomoea batatas. It is the storage organ of the plant, containing nutrients and carbohydrates which sustain its above ground shoots, vines, foliage and flowers. Nutritional Value As far as vegetable starches go the Garnet yam is a notably healthy choice, particularly when compared to the classic white potato.
Garnet yams have nearly twice the dietary fiber of russet potatoes and offer a healthy dose of vitamins C and B6, iron, copper and potassium. Yellow and orange-fleshed yams are known for their substantial beta carotene content and the more orange the flesh, the higher the beta carotene content will be. To achieve optimum nutritional benefits both the flesh and skin of the Garnet yam should be consumed.
Applications The high sugar and starch content of Garnet yams make them suitable for a wide range of both sweet and savory applications, and many cooking methods.

Why only a tiny serving of beans you may ask? I spilled the Tupperware containing the beans as I was plating my meal and that pathetic little spoonful was all I could salvage. About a week ago, I was talking with a very close friend of mine who is incredibly unhappy in her job.
Thirty – Peanut Butter Runner I tried to start two other “regular” blog posts today but they just weren’t coming together. This post has been on my heart but I wasn’t sure whether I was going to write it.
I love peanut butter—the kind that is nothing but peanuts—in so many ways. Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich. This staple sustained me for lunch five days a week throughout my growing years. I still count on it for a dependably delicious and satisfying lunch. It works with any kind of bread and almost any kind of jelly. It tastes best fresh because after a long day in the sun, the jelly may bleed through the bread and result in a soggy sandwich.
This jelly attack can be avoided by covering both sides of bread with a thin base layer of peanut butter. Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich. This is a special, and often also includes jelly. The banana in the sandwich makes it more cumbersome for packing purposes. So I usually pack it in parts: The banana is easy to slice just before consumption. Peanut Butter and Pickle Sandwich. I read a story about a pregnant lady who walked into a cafe asking for a peanut butter and pickle sandwich.
